A study conducted in 1988 by Dr. Randolf Bird, f cfrdiologist at University of California at San Francisco School of Medicine, emphaticaly says «yes» Dr. Bird tested the impact of distant prayer, much like a new medication. He recorded its effects on nearly 400 patients who all had severe chest pains and/or heart attacks. Half were prayed for experienced far less complications, needed far less medication, and recovered much faster.
The basic problem most people have when they pray is they too frequently expect only a positive answer. Many times when God says «no», the «no» turns out to be the best answer for us. I vividly remember two occasions when I prayed long and hard for two specific things. Within a year I learned that, had God said «yes» to the first request, it would have been a disaster for me. it took five years, but I later understood that had He said «yes» to the second request, it too, would have been a disaster. That’s the reason we should always pray that God’s will be done. He has a bigger, more comprehensive overview of what’s going on everywhere.
